The Israeli involvement in the sabotaging of oil tankers

Israeli Submarines

Sabotaged Oil Tankers in

Gulf of Oman

By baronmaya

It is known that the USA has for long had a comprehensive and combined plan with Israelto attack Iranian targets with huge, non-nuclear, bunker-busting, 10 ton, GBU-43  air-blast bombs capable of destroying the deepest underground  installations.
It is also known that the Israeli military have been an integral part of that US plan to first cripple the Iranian economy with global oil sanctions and then to initiate an air and sea attack against the Iranian state and its people.
But first, a credible excuse was required.  That excuse was orchestrated jointly by a belligerent Trump and Netanyahu, this week, when two oil tankers were structurally damaged by limpet mines, off the coast of Oman.
The sabotage was immediately blamed upon Iran by US Secretary of State, Michael Pompeowithout any evidence whatsoever.
However, the state actor concerned was, almost certainly, not Iran but very probably the Israeli navy with its state-of-the-art, German-built, nuclear-armed submarines,covertly patrolling the deep waters of the Gulf.
The deliberate sabotaging of four shipping tankers in the Gulf and the too obvious accusations against Iran, indicate that US-Israeli plans for a combined attack against the Iranian state are now fairly imminent.
These are very dangerous times, indeed, with an unpredictable and unstable US President determined to instigate a war in the Middle East with a committed partner who has long wanted to destroy Iran in its own bid for regional dominance.
If the conflict materializes and there is an attack against Iran by combined US-Israeli forces, then oil prices could double overnight with devastating global consequences upon all but America who is self-sufficient in oil.

Russian TV "Vesti" on the Gulf of Oman incident - "only the Anericans could gain from this"

Russian TV On The Gulf Of Oman Incident: A Classic Provocation
The US has its finger on the trigger, looking for an excuse.

18 June, 2019

Thomas Römer in Anti-Spiegel
(Translator note:  I began my study of Russian 12 years ago, and though I regularly watch Vesti, I confess that my Russian is simply not good enough to translate direct from hearing. German, however, is a different story: I passed the Graduate Exam in German 54 years ago. So, for me to bring this to FRN readers at all, I resort, thankfully, to Thomas Römer’s German rendering)

The Russian television about the incident in the Gulf of Oman

In the Russian broadcast “News of the Week” Russian television has dealt in detail with the incident in the Gulf of Oman. Unsurprisingly, it is clear to Russian television that the USA has carried out a false flag operation there. In contrast to the German media, the contributions were very worthwhile, so I translated them.

First came the introduction from the studio and then the report of the local correspondent.

Start of translation:

On June 13, two oil tankers, one from Norway and the other from Japan, were hit by explosions in the Gulf of Oman, in the waters between Iran and Oman.
The Americans immediately accused Iran of a torpedo attack. Iran immediately stated that this was a provocation and rejected all allegations. The Americans have stepped up the degree of horror.
On the 14th, Trump directly blamed Iran, presenting a fuzzy video as proof that unknown persons on an unknown boat in the dark are doing something above the waterline of an unknown ship. When the pictures were taken is not known. Maybe 10 years ago. And it’s not clear who filmed it and with what gear. Maybe it’s even stock footage. The US Central Command claims that in the video the Iranian military is removing an unexploded mine from the side of the tanker to cover their tracks.
It is not clear why the Iranian military should take the mine off. Who even attached it? And what proves that it is Iranians in the footage? Absurd, but for the US, this footage is the strongest argument against Iran so far.

Of course, the situation in Bishkek was discussed extensively on the margins of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit in a bilateral meeting between the Presidents of Russia and Iran. On the eve of the meeting Deputy Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov warned that “premature conclusions that would only pour oil into the fire.”
I would like to take this opportunity to warn against premature conclusions, especially about attempts to shift responsibility to those who displease a number of states,” said Ryabkov.
Britain, however, quickly sided with the United States. Following the motto “Yes, yes. It was Iran.”

Germany, however, cautiously questioned the American evidence. “The video is not enough. Of course we can understand what is shown there. But it is not enough for me to make a final assessment,” said German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas.
France and also EU External Affairs Commissioner Mogherini spoke in the same vein.
It became clear that in the event of a US attack on Iran, Europe would regard this as aggression. Europe and its NATO allies on the continent clearly do not need this war.

However, it is alarming that it is clear to everyone that the sabotage in the Gulf of Oman is a classic provocation for the beginning of the war.
News of the Week” has already reported that Trump has sent an armada of seven warships into the region, led by the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln. Another missile destroyer, the Mason, with Tomahawks on board, is also on the way. The region is now literally peppered with American tomahawks. The Americans have their finger on the trigger. All they lack is a reason to start a war. Now the occasion has been constructed. This is dangerous.
Our correspondent reports.
This story looks like a provocation that Americans desperately need. The attacks on oil tankers are certainly not in the interest of Tehran and Washington’s evidence reminds us of Powell’s test tube. To construct an excuse for war, Americans have often lied to the world.
After the attack on civilian ships in the Gulf of Oman, the perpetrators were quickly found in Washington. The US President even reported that the magnetic mines found on the hull of one of the affected tankers carry the Iranian signature. How Donald Trump thinks he knows that is not clear: all the alleged evidence that has been presented does not allow such a conclusion.
The Central Military Command has spread the poor quality video widely. The Americans said it was made by a reconnaissance plane. In the recording, some boat approaches an unknown ship, after a short manipulation on the ship’s side, it sails away again. Tehran understandably explains that Washington’s allegations are absurd.
Common sense is on the side of Iran.
Attacks on oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman, i.e, endangering oil transportation through the Strait of Hormuz, would primarily hit the Iranian economy. The Strait of Hormuz, which connects the Gulf of Oman with the Persian Gulf, accounts for one-fifth of the world’s oil supply. And now, given the US sanctions, it is particularly important for Iran to be able to ship its oil to its customers in a stable manner.
Incidentally, one of the ships under attack is Japanese, and the tanker attack took place while Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was visiting Iran and meeting with Ayatollah Khamenei. Abe should mediate during the visit between Tehran and Washington to ease the tensions, but against the background of such news, it is clear that the mission was doomed to failure.
The fact that the attack on tankers is only for the Americans is shown by how quickly US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo responded. He already accused Iran before the Central Command released the video.

“These unprovoked attacks are a threat to international peace and security, an open attack on the freedom of shipping, and an unacceptable campaign to escalate tensions on the side of Iran,” Pompeo said.
The Americans have already used the incident to reinforce their naval group here. Another missile destroyer, Arleigh Burke with cruise missiles on board, was ordered to the region.
Meanwhile, crew members of the tankers evacuated from the ships made statements that destroyed the already fragile American version. The sailors claim that the tankers were attacked from the air. But that is certainly not an Iranian handwriting. Before the attack on the tankers an American reconnaissance and an attack drone flew in the airspace. The Iranian military tried to shoot them with an antiaircraft rocket, but did not hit them. However, these are American statements.
Incidentally, the Iranian military was the first to come to the aid and organized the evacuation of the crew of the tanker Altair. On board were 11 Russian citizens. None of them was injured in the explosion.
Despite Washington’s previous attempts to construct a serious pretext, the allegations can not justify a military operation, but have only raised the level of tension.
In addition, it is now clear that the NATO allies are not united. And that’s already European pragmatism. Europe is generally irritated by the US withdrawal from the nuclear deal with Iran, and a military conflict is an extremely unpopular option. But it is possible that there will be new reasons in the near future, and Washington does not like to stay halfway.

Yakov Kedmi States the Obvious: Why Would Iran Do Something Stupid as Bombing a Japanese Tanker?

Vesti

Yakov Kedmi, social activist (Israel): "The US military lies, blatantly, pushing the entire world and their country towards a new war. Don't rely on their words. Bearing these facts in mind, one should give up this attitude: "Since the US intelligence said that it must be true." Moreover, they can't produce a single piece of evidence that would prove their version of the events."

US sending more troops and claims of new "evidence" against Iran

The acting Pentagon chief has green-lighted the deployment of 1,000 additional troops to the Middle East, citing “reliable, credible” intelligence on recent attacks on oil tankers in the Gulf that Washington blames on Iran.

In a statement Monday, Acting US Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan said he approved US Central Command (CENTCOM)’s earlier request to increase forces to “address air, naval, and ground-based threats in the Middle East.”

Acting Defense Secretary announces the USA is sending 1000 additional troops to the Middle East

The US has been beefing up its troops in the region since early May, when Washington sent a battery of Patriot missiles, nuclear-capable bombers and an aircraft carrier strike group to the area, where it currently has 1,500 troops.

The growing threat from Tehran was given as justification for the buildup. Washington has blamed Iran for a number of incidents in the region over the last two months. Tehran denies its involvement.

A recent report, citing UN sources in New York, alleged that Washington was considering launching a ‘tactical assault on Iranin retaliation to the June 13th attack on two foreign tankers in the Gulf of Oman.

A recent report, citing UN sources in New York, alleged that Washington was considering launching a ‘tactical assault on Iran’ in retaliation to the June 13th attack on two foreign tankers in the Gulf of Oman.
The statement itself comes just hours after the Pentagon released new images purporting to prove Iran’s guilt in the incident that damaged Japanese-owned tanker 'Kokuka Courageous' and the Norwegian-owned ‘Front Altair’. No insignia, flags or names of the vessels can be discerned from the footage.
Iran has refuted all the allegations about its involvement in the incidents, pointing to a vast record of ‘false flag’ operations carried out by the US to back up its interests around the world.

Pentagon releases new pictures of the Oman Gulf tanker attack, says they 'prove' Iran's guilt

Pentagon releases new pictures of the Oman Gulf tanker attack, says they 'prove' Iran's guilt
RT,
17 June, 2019

The US Navy has released new photos of the aftermath of the attack on oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman. The images are said to show an Iranian speedboat, approaching one of the vessels to remove an unexploded limpet mine.

The new images show the same episode earlier featured in a very low-quality black and white video released by the US military. The new pictures – clearer and colored – appear to be screengrabs from aerial footage of the incident.

The pictures show a speedboat, said to be Iranian, approaching the Japanese-owned tanker 'Kokuka Courageous' from the starboard side and removing a device that Pentagon insists is a limpet mine. According to Washington, this imagery somehow proves that Tehran was behind the attack.

"Iran is responsible for the attack based on video evidence and the resources and proficiency needed to quickly remove the unexploded limpet mine," the US military said in a statement.

Other pictures show a hole, said to be blown in the tanker's hull by another mine, and even handprints of a person who removed the unexploded device.

US To Send 1,000 More Troops To Counter Iran As Pentagon Releases New Photographs Of Tanker Attack

17 June, 2019

Just in case you, like most of the rest of the world (including specifically the Japanese, who demanded more proof), were not convinced of Iran's culpability in the attacks on the tankers in the Gulf of Oman, the Pentagon has released new, upgraded images and a timeline of events.
During a Monday press briefing it provided more details it said bolsters the US narrative of events, and even including a Navy explosives expert who in a presentation walked reporters through reasons why a mine placement above the Kokuka Courageous' waterline meant the intent was to damage the tanker but not to sink it. “Iran is responsible for the attack based on video evidence and the resources and proficiency needed to quickly remove the unexploded limpet mine,” according to a statement published with the photos.

The United Nations, meanwhile, along with the European Union, has urged caution and restraint, with Secretary-General Antonio Guterres calling for an independent investigation, saying "it is very important to know the truth." And notably Germany's foreign minister said that the grainy video provided by the US Navy was not enough to convince Berlin of Iran's guilt.
Yet in predictable fashion the White House is already mulling additional military deployments to the Middle East, including fighter jets, Patriot missile batteries, and even ground combat troops, according to Reuters. We've also entered the all too familiar "a range of options are on the table" rhetoric, as Pompeo said in recent statements.
As of Monday evening US CENTCOM announced the US will send 1,000 additional troops to the Middle East as part of preparedness should American assets or allies come under threat from Iran or its proxies.

However, as we previously noted, this particular incident has been met with a nearly unprecedented amount of public and media skepticism, even from the likes of CNN, which had initially bluntly acknowledged, "Iran doesn't appear to have a lot to gain". In that same report last week, CNN went so far as to agree with Iran's foreign minister that the whole narrative was just too terribly simplistic and convenient, as CNN surprisingly put it: Iran's chief moderate, Foreign Minister Javid Zarif, was right to point out that "suspicious doesn't begin to describe what likely transpired this morning." When one party is so easily blamed, it is likely blameless, or unfathomably stupid.Via ABC News: "The new color images released by U.S. Central Command show an Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps Ghashti-class patrol boat alongside the Kokuka Courageous during and after the removal of the unexploded mine that had been left on the ship's hull."

Via ABC: There are also close-up photos that show the ring around where magnets had attached the mine to the ship, as well as composite residue from the mine still on the ship’s hull. Additional photos from the Pentagon show the holes caused to the two tankers by the mines.

The Pentagon during Monday's briefing doubled down on its claim that it couldn't have been a torpedo, which is why it emphasized the mine being placed above the waterline.
Also interesting was the explanation concerning why IRGC personnel - according to the US claim - would engage in a dangerous demining operation with so many people aboard the small craft that went to the side of the Kokuka Courageous, per ABC:
The officials described the attempt to remove the unexploded mine in the way shown in the images as "very high risk" and not a way that the U.S. Navy would have ever undertaken. According to those officials they would have removed the mine remotely with as few personnel around the ship as possible.
Below is the Pentagon's newly updated timeline on June 13 near the Strait of Hormuz, providing the US perspective of events.
* * *
At 3:12 a.m. the destroyer USS Mason received a call from the M/T Front Altair reporting that it was attacked in the Gulf of Oman. A large fire was observed a few minutes later and the destroyer USS Bainbridge, 40 nautical miles away, moved to render aid.
At 4:00 a.m., the M/T Kokuka Courageous reports being hit by an external projectile, taking on water and confronting a fire in its engine room.
At 5:09 a.m. Iran's Hendijan PGG and "multiple fast inshore attack craft observed within the area."
At 5:15 a.m. the Front Altair confirms major fire amidships.
At 6:26 a.m. an unidentified Iranian patrol boat requests the M/V Hyundai Dubai hand over crew rescued from the Front Altair, a request the ship complies with.
At 8:05 a.m. The Bainbridge approaches a Dutch tug, the Coastal Ace, which had rescued the crew of the Kokuka Courageous. The Iranian ship Hendijan PGG tried to get to the tug first, according to the Pentagon.
At 8:32 a.m. The sailors rescued by the Coastal Ace are transferred to the Bainbridge.Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has suggested that Iran's enemies may have been behind the attacks, essentially framing his country, and renewed calls for a regional dialogue. In a tweet Friday he said, "Unilateral US actions - incl. its #EconomicTerrorism on Iran - are solely responsible for insecurity & renewed tension in our region."
