Hotspot in northern Siberia

26 degrees Celsius (79 degrees Fahrenheit in the Arctic circle

At present it is 3 degrees Celsius (37 degrees Fahrenheit) in Svalbard, Norway

Khatanga on the Laptev Sea; a hot spot


The wind was blowing at a speed of 3 meters per second (6.7 miles per hour) from West in Khatanga, Russia. The temperature was 26 degrees Celsius (79 degrees Fahrenheit). Air pressure was 1,020 hPa (30.12 inHg). Relative humidity was 39.1%. There were a few clouds at a height of 1006 meters (3300 feet). The visibility was >11.3 kilometers (>7 miles).

Basically the same here and it has been dark with clear skies for hours, and 37 F forecasted high for the next few days. We are about 90 miles inland from the Bering Sea at latitude 61. Average high temp. is 14 F. That average high includes all years through last year.

  1. According to Wikipedia, the previous December hight for Khatanga was -.2 C (31.6 F), and the average high in December is -25.5 C, or -13 F.
