Danish police say they have identified the man they believe to be behind two shootings in the capital in the past 24 hours. They believe last month’s Charlie Hebdo massacre in France could have inspired him.

Police have identified the slain gunman suspected of killing two people in a double shooting outside a synagogue and at a free speech debate in Copenhagen as a 22-year-old Danish-born man with a criminal record and history of gang-related offenses.

Authorities have so far refused to make the name of the suspect public. But Danish broadcaster DR Nyheder said the gunman's name was Omar El-Hussein. The man was reportedly released from prison just two weeks ago.

Police are investigating whether a 22-year-old Danish-born gunman they shot dead in Copenhagen had acted alone in staging Denmark’s most lethal terrorist attack in decades, killing a film director in a hail of bullets at a debate on freedom of speech in the city on Saturday then gunning down a young Jewish man outside a synagogue hours later and leaving five police officers injured.

ISIS releases video claiming execution of 21 Egyptian Copts

Islamic State militants have released a new graphic video showing what they claim are the executions of 21 Egyptian Copts kidnapped in Libya. The video was published on the Twitter account of a website that supports the jihadists.

The Copts – native Christians of Egypt – are shown in the video dressed in orange jumpsuits with their hands tied behind their backs, while being walked along the seaside by jihadists dressed in black. The Egyptian men are then forced to kneel before being beheaded.

Several very graphic images of the killings appeared on Twitter. RT will not run the images, believing it is unethical to publish the footage or pictures of atrocities committed by terrorists even if they cannot be immediately verified.

A caption on the five-minute video read: "The people of the cross, followers of the hostile Egyptian church."

Before the killings, one of the militants stood with a knife in his hand and said: "Safety for you crusaders is something you can only wish for."

The Coptic Church confirmed that 21 Egyptian Christians believed to have been held by IS are dead, Egypt's state news agency MENA reported.

UN Security Council demands Houthis step aside in Yemen

The United Nations Security Council has unanimously adopted a resolution that demands that Houthi rebels immediately relinquish control of Yemen's government.

Arab countries have been pressing for the use of military force against what they call the rebel group's "illegitimate seizure of power".

But the resolution approved at an emergency council meeting on Sunday evening does not act under Chapter 7 of the UN Charter, which would allow it to be militarily enforced.
