Narratives and counter-narratives in America's civil war

Pigs will fly. Notice where the accusation is coming from. See my comments below.

Socialist Seattle City Council member Ksharma Sawant suggested on Saturday that a deadly shooting inside the Capitol Hill Occupied Protest (CHOP) zone was a “right-wing attack” which she laid at the feet of President Donald Trump.

As previous reports noted, two people were shot inside the zone early Saturday morning, one fatally. Details of the incident remain unclear, as police were unable to enter the zone to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of the 19-year-old.

Officers attempted to locate a shooting victim but were met by a violent crowd that prevented officers safe access to the victims,” the Seattle Police Department said in a statement. “Officers were later informed that the victims, both males, had been transported to Harborview Medical Center by CHOP medics.”

Officers responded to Harborview and were informed that one of the victims, a 19-year-old male, had died from injuries. The other victim, also a male, unknown age, remains in the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The suspect or suspect(s) fled and are still at large. There is no description at this time,” the statement continued, as reported by the Capitol Hill Seattle Blog.

According to the Seattle Times on Sunday, police have few clues and have not released the names of either victim, as the second one remains in critical condition. But Sawant thinks she has the low-down.

Our deepest condolences go out to the loved ones of the black protester who was tragically killed this morning by gunfire at the Capitol Hill Organized Protest (CHOP). Socialist Alternative and I stand in solidarity with the family and friends of the victim, and with the injured protester now in the hospital, as well as with all community members and fellow activists,” she said in a statement published by MyNorthwest.

Though we await confirmation of the details of the killing, there are indications that this may have been a right-wing attack. If so, this would not be the first such attack on the Capitol Hill Black Lives Matter protest,” Sawant noted, without evidence. “As many recall, an armed man drove into the protest action on June 8, and shot black activist Dan Gregory, who had heroically intervened to stop the driver.

We need immediate solidarity with the protest at the CHOP, and unity in our movement against reactionary violence. Our movement refuses to be intimidated,” she continued, before implicating the president as somehow having played a role in the shootings.

It is no accident that right-wing hate and violence has grown dramatically with Donald Trump in the White House. If this killing turns out to be a right-wing attack, President Trump bears direct responsibility, since he has fomented reactionary hatred specifically against the peaceful Capitol Hill occupation, and even threatened to intervene with federal troops,” she charged.

I have no problem that there will be violence from the far-Right.

The problem, however,  I have with stories is that they are isolated incidents and always juxtaposed with "peaceful protesters" - according to this narrative Antifa does not even exist.

I can go onto social media every day and come across videos, tweets and eyewitness account that are enough to persuade me that there is Left-Wing violence aplenty.

However, I can see little DIRECT evidence of the opposite. When I have it I will post it.
Three white men with ties to a right-wing extremist movement plotted terrorist attacks against protesters in Las Vegas, federal prosecutors said in a criminal complaint.

Prosecutors said three men with military experience and ties to the far-right "boogaloo" movement, which aims at inciting a second American Civil War, plotted attacks against individuals protesting the death of George Floyd and coronavirus restrictions.

I find Stranger Than Fiction News more entertaining than informative. At least this video has not yet been removed by You Tube

Inside CHAZ (the Capital Hill Autonomous Zone)

From one of the Red Guards Austin manifestos, posted August 19th and still online:
Oppose the Counterfeit! Antifascism Must Take On a Paramilitary Character!
The fact that no fascists were harmed in the making of this “counter-protest” only proves that the main organizers have no stomach for antifascism—for us antifascism is concrete—it does not mean simply voicing a disagreement it means stopping fascists in their tracks and hurting their efforts to the point where they stop organizing.
On the basis of our principled united front work, fascists and their collaborators can be drowned out, run out, routed, beaten bloody, and even annihilated. These are our principles and we aim to hold them to the very finish....
It goes without saying that Antifa has no reservations about using violence to achieve their political goals. In fact, these masked thugs who fancy themselves anti-fascists live by Alinski’s Rules for Radicals.
  1. Power is not only what you have but what the enemy thinks you have.”
  2. Never go outside the expertise of your people.”
  3. Whenever possible go outside the expertise of the enemy.
  4. Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules.”
  5. Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon.”
  6. A good tactic is one your people enjoy.”
  7. A tactic that drags on too long becomes a drag.”
  8. Keep the pressure on.”
  9. The threat is usually more terrifying than the thing itself.”
  10. The major premise for tactics is the development of operations that will maintain a constant pressure upon the opposition.”
  11. If you push a negative hard and deep enough it will break through into its counterside”
  12. The price of a successful attack is a constructive alternative.”
  13. Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.”
