Disturbing images of Wuhan residents dropping unresponsive to the floor have emerged on Instagram following the diseased Chinese city's coronavirus lockdown.

Wuhan has been branded a “zombieland” by frantic locals after Chinese authorities told residents they are not allowed to leave yesterdaymorning.

Pictures from inside the city paint an apocalyptic picture as medics patrol in hazmat suits and gas masks.

In an upload direct from Wuhan, a man can be seen lying unresponsive on the floor as concerned individuals look on.

It appears as though the man was waiting in line for paperwork when he collapsed while wearing a disposable face mark for protection.

As the scene unfolds, a medic dressed in all white approaches the man and bends down to offer assistance.

The situation was witnessed by a line of six people but the incident does not seem isolated as other residents have posted images of the same scenario.

One woman can be seen frantically pointing to the floor as a team of medics in hazmat suits attend to a man lying unconscious on the floor.

So far the coronavirus has taken the lives of 25 people with over 600 cases confirmed worldwide.

Cases have been confirmed in China, Thailand, South Korea, Japan and the United States.

The UK is yet to have a confirmed case of the virus but four people are being held in isolation at Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

Reports suggest the individuals came through London from Wuhan and were flagged after developing symptoms associated with the disease.

Initial tests could not immediately isolate what the condition might be and medics are “erring on the side of caution in the meantime".

In more severe cases, it can cause pneumonia severe acute respiratory symptoms, and kidney failure.

Officials from the World Health Organisation convened for an emergency meeting in Geneva, Switzerland today after declaring a public health emergency earlier this week.

It is not yet clear how the strain developed but Gao Fu, director-general of China’s Centre for Disease Control and Prevention said the strain is adapting and mutating as it spreads.

In a statement, Fu said: "The Wuhan coronavirus’ natural host could be bats… but between bats and humans, there may be an unknown intermediate.”
