TruNews Broadcasts May Be Impacted By The Powerful Tropical Cyclone

Hurricane Dorian is beginning the “left turn” that is expected to move the powerful tropical cyclone toward the Bahamas and Florida over the weekend.

The National Hurricane Center’s latest update of the storm rated it as a Category 1 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 85 mph. It is now located 330 miles east of the southeastern Bahamas and continues to move northwest at 13 mph. In a statement, the NHC announced:

“There is an increasing likelihood of life-threatening storm surge along portions of the Florida east coast late this weekend or early next week, although it is too soon to determine where the highest storm surge will occur. Residents should have their hurricane plan in place, know if they are in a hurricane evacuation zone, and listen to advice given by local emergency officials.”

Floridians are already preparing for a direct hit with the storm forecast to be a “major hurricane”—at least Category 3, possibly Category 4 or even Category 5—clearing out store shelves and boarding up windows. Gov. Ron DeSantis has also issued an emergency declaration, stating:

“All residents, especially those along the east coast, need to be prepared for possible impacts. As it increases strength, this storm has the potential to severely damage homes, businesses and buildings, which is why all Floridians should remain vigilant. Do not wait until it is too late to make a plan.”

Hurricane Dorian is forecast to make landfall very near the TruNews headquarters in Vero Beach, Fla. This will affect the TruNews broadcast schedule in the days ahead as members of the team make their own preparations and/or evacuate due to the storm.
