IRKUTSK, July 28./TASS/. Residents of Tulun in Russia’s Far Eastern Irkutsk region are being evacuated as new flash floods are feared, the regional department of the Russian Ministry for Emergency Situations reports.

"Emergencies ministry’s specialists, police as well as the administration of municipalities are warning and evacuating residents of the areas that are at risk of flooding," it said.

About 650 houses remain flooded in Russia’s Amur region

1,356 people have been evacuated from the flooded settlements

BLAGOVESHCHENSK, July 29. /TASS/. About 650 homes remain flooded in Russia’s Amur region, the regional government said in a statement on Monday.

On July 25, a regional state of emergency was declared in the region over flooding.

As many as 202 National Guard officers have been deployed to the flood-hit area, as well as over 40 pieces of equipment

The press service added that "1,356 people, including 475 children, have been evacuated from the flooded settlements." As many as 487 people, including 172 kids, are staying at temporary accommodation facilities, while others are staying with their relatives.

According to earlier reports, the regional authorities suggest declaring a federal state of emergency in the Amur region. The estimated flood damage has exceeded 500 mln rubles ($7.9 mln). About 1,000 houses in 24 settlements risk being flooded in the coming days.

MOSCOW, July 29. /TASS/. Russia’s National Guard has dispatched additional units to respond to the flood situation in the city of Tulun, Irkutsk region, the National Guard’s press service said in a statement.

"As many as 202 National Guard officers have been deployed to the flood-hit area, as well as over 40 pieces of equipment," the statement reads.

The press service added that the National Guard continued clean-up activities and was also providing drinking water to locals affected by the flood.

According to earlier reports, more than 500 National Guard personnel are involved in a flood response operation in the Irkutsk region.

The flood hit the Irkutsk region in late June, affecting nearly 11,000 homes with a population of 42,700 people. According to recent data, the flood killed 25 people, while seven are still missing. The city of Tulun suffered the most damage.
