Syrian Air Defenses Down Projectiles Fired From Israeli-Controlled Territory

According to Syrian state media, Syrian air defenses have intercepted projectiles coming from Israeli-controlled territory.

The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported late Friday night that air defense systems had intercepted "luminous objects coming from the occupied territories, shooting down a number of them."

"Our anti-aircraft systems monitored hostile targets that came from the direction of Quneitra and intercepted them," a Syrian military official told reporters.

Video footage shot on a cell phone in Damascus showed anti-air missiles intercepting at least one target. According to the poster, multiple explosions were heard in the southwest of the city, which is closest to Israel.

​​A political analyst reported Israeli warplanes had targeted two sites belonging to Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) located south and southwest of the Syrian capital.

​Last month, Syria accused Tel Aviv of carrying out an airstrike against military bases in Masayef, in northwestern Syria's Hama province. In the previous month, seven Iranian service members were killed during an Israeli airstrike near Aleppo International Airport.

Breaking: Syrian air defenses activated as suspected Israeli airstrikes target Damascus

BEIRUT, LEBANON (10:00 P.M.) – Minutes ago, a Syrian military source told Al-Masdar that their air defenses have been activated at the Mezzeh Airbase following a suspected breach of their airspace.

According to the Syrian military, they are engaging enemy projectiles that they suspect are from the Israeli Air Force.

No more details were available at this time.

Damascus, Syria is under attack from air strikes at this hour.   Air defense systems across Syria are lighting-up with targets.  Surface-to-air missiles are being launched.  

Sonic booms from fighter aircraft can allegedly be heard over a wide area of Syria.   Something tremendous is taking place.   LIVE UPDATES BELOW . . . .

4:40 PM EDT -- According to a source at Mezzeh Airport, there are a number of projectiles targeting the Damascus countryside. They’re still engaging them. They believe them to be Israeli missiles. 

4:44 PM EDT -- Confirmation: Targets were attacked in the area of al-Keswa (a space that Iranians have a broad foothold in).

INTEL:  Israel fired eight surface-to-surface missiles from the south of the Golan. Preliminary information talks about the Israeli attempt to target the military El Mazze Air Base.

This is a sophisticated attack

Air defenses engaged what they thought were hostiles over the Syrian coast. They were decoys.

Whilst decoys were engaged, cruise missiles hit republican guard centers from the opposing direction.

There is another wave right now, with lots of decoys in the air too.

 4:47 PM EDT -- Major offensive against Damascus-multiple targets engaged - operation ongoing

Some projectiles shot down and others have landed. Not sure what the target is just yet. Some reports claim Kisweh has been hit in the southwest

 Syrian military sources report they detected hostile entities entering Syria near Al-Quneitra

4:50 PM EDT  Israel Defense Force used EXTRA artillery rockets to hit several one-time sensitive targets (possibly IRGC related) in Damascus. Syria Air Defense Force's Pantsir S1/2 SAM systems didn't manage to shoot them down.   IDF launched the rockets from Golan Heights. 

4:52 PM EDT -- second wave just struck; air launched cruise missiles fired from Lebanese airspace.

Hezbollah and Iranian joint facility at Al Keswah (about 10 miles out of Damascus) has just been hit hard.

4:54 PM EDT -- SYRIAN STATE MEDIA SAYS PROJECTILES FIRED FROM ISRAELI TERRITORY

4:55 PM EDT -- Another violent explosions rocked the Syrian capital a few seconds ago

 ISRAEL BRIEFING THE MEDIA THAT THEY HAVE HIT IRANIAN TARGETS AND WEAPONS STORAGE

5:00 PM EDT -- Quiet now in Damascus . . . .
