Two Russian guys find out USA's plans for Venezuela in prank phone call

Russian pranksters Vladimir Kuznetsov and Alexey Stolyarov known for their monikers as Vovan and Lexus had a prank phone call with US Special Representative for Venezuela Elliott Abrams. The Russians talked to the US official on behalf of Swiss President Ueli Maurer.

The pranksters conducted several conversations with Abrams in February and March of 2019 and discussed issues related to blocked accounts of Venezuelan officials in Swiss banks. Vovan and Lexus, on behalf of the Swiss president, accepted the requirement from the US special envoy to block accounts, and Abrams sent them the list of Venezuelan officials and people close to Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, who were put on sanctions lists in the United States.  

An “ambassador” of the new Venezuelan government, Carlos Vecchia, also contacted the Russian pranksters. The pranksters sent him the lists of officials whose accounts were allegedly found in Swiss banks. The two Russians even invented the name of the bank, in which Nicolas Maduro's assets were allegedly deposited - Lexus Vovanial Bank Ltd. Their interlocutors did not suspect anything and fell for the trick.

According to the pranksters, it took them a week to prepare the prank. The goal of the undertaking was to conduct a journalistic investigation into USA's involvement in the attempted coup in Venezuela and to find out what actions the US State Department was planning to carry out in the future.

The two Russians have thus been able to find out that the United States was not planning military interference in Venezuela.
