Saudi Prince Mansour bin Muqrin was killed in a helicopter crash near the Yemeni border , reports Saudi state media.

The crash occurred near the city of Abha in Assir Province.

It is still unknown at the time of publication if the crash was a result of error, sabotage, or attack. The prince had both regional and internal political opponents. Official statements forthcoming out of Saudi state media will be received cautiously.

Mansour bin Muqrin served in Riyadh’s cabinet as vice chief of the Assir region, where Yemeni's Houthi freedom fighters are known to conduct hit and run attacks in the method of guerrilla warfare. 

Prince Mansour bin Muqrin was not on the recent arrest list issued by Prince Mohammed bin Salman. As we reported yesterday, Prince MBS heading a so-called 'anti-corruption' initiative, drew up arrest orders for "At least 10 Saudi princes and dozens of former ministers"

The surprise resignation of pro-Saudi Lebanese leader, Hariri just yesterday, while in the KSA, means there is an undeniable level of increased instability in the pro-Israel gulf monarchy. The KSA has suffered a series of strategic setbacks as well in its war upon Yemen, and also backs several Salafist outfits fighting against Syria. This news will no doubt have profound regional implications.
