Heatwave in Northern Siberia

If you want confirmation that things are as bad as they seem to be in the Arctic, this seems to provide some confirmation.

I wasn't going to post this unless it got into the red and above freezing. Well, it got into the red. Getting above freezing could not happen in a worse place. It is in the Laptev Sea. Very high concentrations of methane hydrates are here

This map from Climate Reanalyzer shows temperatures are the same as far south as Ottawa, Canada as they are at the North Pole

Temperatures in the Canadian capital are 0 degrees Celcius (32F)

And the temperatures in Nuuk, the capital of Greenland are plus 2 degrees Celcius

As much our interest is in northern Siberia, in particular, the Laptev Sea, I decided to check reports on Arctic map (an excellent resource for weather conditions in this part of the world)

I checked on three points -

- Pevek in the East Siberian Sea (the northernmost city in Russia)

- Khatanga, in the Talmyr Peninsula

- Tiksi on the Laptev Sea

Pevek

The wind was blowing at a speed of 3 meters per second (6.7 miles per hour) from Southwest in Pevek, Russia. The temperature was 12 degrees Celsius (54 degrees Fahrenheit). Air pressure was 1,015 hPa (29.97 inHg). Relative humidity was 66.7%. There were scattered clouds at a height of 3048 meters (10000 feet). The visibility was >11.3 kilometers (>7 miles).
