Earthquake off coast of Fiji

The Pacific rim of fire is on fire and it will probably get wilder. We have destabilised the tectonic plates and only yesterday we lost 300,000 sq km's of ice. Seismic activity is normal but like the weather we have changed it forever. The loss of ice and glaciers and the decreased levels of water in rivers, aquifers and dams presents us with the perfect storm of anthropogemic seismic activity and climate chaos

There is no normal anymore.

'It was very very deep' - 6.5 earthquake strikes off Fiji coast

A 6.5 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Fiji this morning, the US Geological Survey says.

The shake occurred just before 9.30am and was centred 42km east-north-east of Fiji's Ndoi Island, and 423km south-east of the capital Suva and 336km west-north-west of Tonga's capital Nuku'alofa.

Its depth was 564km. No tsunami warning has been issued.

"Earthquakes of this magnitude are not at all unusual in that part of the world, and it was very, very deep so it's something unlikely to have any impact on the surface," a GA spokesman told AAP.
