Conservation Biologist says new U.N. Global Warming report understates the dire situation of the planet

In a new U.N. report released yesterday scientists reached a stark conclusion: Unless the world changes course immediately and dramatically, the fundamental systems that support human civilization are at risk.

The new report from The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s new report—took seven years to compile—it draws on “widespread” evidence of “substantial” climate change impacts “on all continents and across the oceans.” For the first time, the IPCC has scientifically linked the changing climate with the destabilization of nation states. It is also increasingly confident of serious effects on food crops, water supplies, and human health, plus global species loss.

Today on Radioactivity Rob Lorei speaks with Dr. Guy McPherson who has been warning that human extinction could come soon because of global warming. Dr. McPherson is professor emeritus of natural resources and the environment at the University of Arizona, where he taught and conducted research for twenty years.

 

He is the author or co-author of such books as "Living with Fire: Fire Ecology and Policy for the Twenty-first Century," "Letters to a Young Academic: Seeking Teachable Moments," and "Ecology and Management of North American Savannas."

He lives in an off-grid, straw-bale house where he organic gardens, raises small animals for eggs and milk, and works with members of his rural community.
