War in Mali

'France faces long & tough war in Mali'

A political analyst says the French troops are surely facing a vey long and tough war in the landlocked West African country of Mali.

In the background of this Malian troops are accused of carrying out a series of summary executions in the battle against anti-government fighters. The international Federation for Human Rights said Malian soldiers killed some people simply because they did not have identity documents. The organization has said executions have been carried out in several towns.

French troops are also in Mali to assist government troops to gain control over extremist rebel forces, many of whom arrived there after being used by the French and other Western agencies in Libya to topple that government.

Tens of thousands of Malians have so far been displaced due to the invasion.

Press TV has interviewed Mr. Lawrence Davidson, professor at Westchester University, Westchester about this issue.
