Rand Paul: Blocking sanctions

Rand Paul Blocks Iran Sanctions

Senator Harry Reid tried to pass a new round of Iranian sanctions through the Senate without allowing any debate or amendments, but the vote failed because of a block by Senator Rand Paul. 

Paul aimed to add an amendment that would make sure the use of any military force would have to get Congressional approval. 

There are more than 80 retired military officers that have written a letter to Congress urging the body not to go along with Paul Ryan's plan and cut 6 billion dollars from development and diplomacy, while simultaneously beefing up defense. 

But why are these voices, those asking for diplomacy, the minority? Scott Horton with Harper's Magazine weighs in.
