No magic pill for British riot “sickness”

A friend of mine in Britain sent me this message which he picked up off an internet noticeboard.
I liked it, so am reproducing it here.

"The 'ohh they can't be that poor they have trainers and phones' stuff is incredibly glib. The fact that these rioters have trainers and smart phones is, perversely, the very reason their futures have been destroyed. Consumer tat is not riches - decent housing, communities and educational and job opportunities are.

The pursuit of ever cheaper consumer tat has had two consequences - the borrowing of tomorrow, their tomorrow so we can pay for it today and the exporting of jobs they could have been doing to people in the far east on a $1 a day. All so we can have a 'cheaper' telly but in exchange for no jobs and a lifetime of debt. Nice deal.

Coupled with an economy and politics based on theft and immorality, corruption and theft on grand scales getting rewarded rather than punished, corrupt politicians, corrupt police, corrupt press, medieval land and housing patterns, horse faced toffs still hoarding money , land and privilege for being born, debt slavery, eye-watering levels of inequality, social exclusion and social mobility going backwards, vacuous celebrity culture, rampant inflation on essentials and worst of all absolutely no voice or accessible means to ever change any of it.

This process of destroying our living standards is and is going to affect a vast group in society, the rioters merely represent the fringe element of the same group most of us also belong to, even if we don't know it yet."

Here is a report from RT, a response to Cameron 's statements.
