NZ Flag- celebrating the status quo
New Zealand decides: the flag referendum result
Preliminary results show New Zealanders have voted to keep the country's existing flag.
Voting closed at 7pm, with preliminary results out at 8.30pm. Official results will follow on 30 March.
Voters were asked to choose between the current flag and Kyle Lockwood's blue and black alternative design, which features a silver fern and the Southern Cross.
The alternative design was chosen from a shortlist of five in an earlier referendum, held in November
