CollapseNet

Everyone will be aware by now of changes at www.collapsenet.com.

Mike Ruppert has relinquished His role as CEO of CollapseNet to concentrate his energy on writing a new book and developing his lifeboat.

The website is now being run by those people who helped CollapseNet to develop.

I started this blog to share the message of global collapse with as many people as would listen.  This has always been a solo endeavour. As time has gone by this has developed from something that was a part-time pursuit to something that consumes many of my waking hours.

Recently I accepted an invitation to join the editorial group at CollapseNet and in additiocn to this blog am contributing to that as well.

In the meantime I am looking at ways to continue to bring you the news that matters, while not duplicating what I do.

I hope that you will go and have a look at the new look CollapseNet.

Here is a message from Wes Miller, who is now President and CEO of CollapseNet.

We Live!
CollapseNet Re-Organizes and Re-Vitalizes
By Wesley T. Miller, President  & CEO

May 10, 2012, Lake Oswego, OR –

Today Collapse Network, Inc., publisher of www.collapsenet.com, has become a completely independent employee-owned international news company with a focused social networking website dedicated to helping people survive the worst converging catastrophes in human history that are merging before our eyes. Though we all love Mike dearly and wish him well on his next journeys, THAT is the purpose for which CollapseNet’s excellent staff – and now owners – have given so much of themselves in creating this one-of-a-kind website.

The need is immense and our position is unique, and that is why we firmly believe CollapseNet will thrive after Mike’s absence in the management of this company.

So just what is CollapseNet’s mission? Through all that we’ve learned since our original launch almost 2 years ago, we have chosen to move forward more clearly defined. Our new Mission Statement reads:

Truth is our agenda, reality is our paradigm, surviving the Transition is our goal.”
Truth is something most intelligent people seek in their daily lives, yet it has been found shockingly absent in most of the mainstream corporate media. Viewers of television news are leaving in droves, as are the subscribers to the many compromised daily newspapers. The stench wafting around from oligarchy media can no longer be tolerated by serious people, and they are looking for valid, legitimate information with which to make informed decisions in an ever bleaker world. We vow to be that source of truth, scouring hundreds of relevant news articles to bring our readers the most important news of the day as well as bringing original reporting and feature articles and video reports concerning the collapsing systems around us.

Yeah, we’ll have a bit of that old FTW flavor. But we’re taking it beyond, bringing our members a fantastic social network of like-minded people who are interested in helping each other get through this global mess. It’s all connected…as are the solutions. And through CollapseNet, WE are all connected.

Your CollapseNet member experience will change immediately. As soon as members log into the website, you will be taken to a new member-interactive landing page with our news and video feeds. It is a Facebook-like interface (the Hub) that you can use to talk to other members, post your own videos, pictures, form groups, make announcements – in short, create communities here on CollapseNet.

We want citizen reporters from around the world! As a big part of this transition, we are asking our members and interested writers or reporters to start submitting news articles to editors@collapsenet.com. We want to find the next Matt Taibbi, or Chris Hedges, or Stan Goff. Or you can put your short video clips on CollapseNet directly via the Hub. We encourage local video reports of around 2 minutes. Our editors may select videos to feature to all members, or even as a free Home Page feature video.

As a matter of editorial policy, we are a reality-based community. While our members are free to discuss whatever they want, and Mike will always be able to voice his feelings in the Founder’s Corner, our editorial position is based upon facts and science. We do not support or endorse any position, opinion or article that appears on our site that is not based upon observable real-world phenomena, or scientific or historical fact. Please read our new Editorial Policy Statement for more detail.

Surviving the Transition” should be self-evident to our readers, but to be more specific for the new folks, we are talking about:

·         the transition from a resource-rich planet to a resource-depleted planet;

·         the ecological, social, and political transitions that will occur in the face of human population overshoot of the Earth’s carrying capacity, environmental destruction and global climate change;

·         the transition to self-reliance that must result as governments, economies and prevailing social institutions collapse under the weight of an unsustainable infinite growth paradigm; and

·         the transition that must occur with the entropy of human civilization as industrial civilization breaks down in a post-petroleum, energy-depleted world.

We didn’t create the circumstances that we, and future generations, are forced to deal with, but CollapseNet intends to provide resilience to help us to survive the ever-more difficult times ahead.

I was inspired for the title for this article by the 1988 John Carpenter movie, “They Live”, as it seems like not only a good allegory for our times, but also for the niche that CollapseNet intends to serve. For those readers who haven’t seen the movie, a drifter stumbles upon a group of resistance fighters against an alien mind-control program after putting on a pair of special sunglasses. Colonizing aliens have recruited sell-out humans to use the mass media to blind everyone to the world around them while constantly subjecting the masses of people to brainwashing subliminal messages. The special sunglasses block the mind-control signal and allow the wearer to see the real world around them. Billboards, magazines and TV are suddenly shown to display messages such as “Conform and obey”, “Go back to sleep”, “Consume” and “Don’t think”.

CollapseNet is your pair of special sunglasses in the real world we occupy. We intend to be the signal interruption of the media noise surrounding sentient humanity. We bring you news to let you see the world as it is, without big-business or political spin. We appeal to rational thought. We are without any agenda other than bringing you the truth. We are here to wake people up, inform them of the real world around them and the “how” and “why” that it works the way it does (which is also killing us). And we want to bring people together from around the world to work on local solutions.

Our planet isn’t dying, but it’s capability to support animal and human life is. What species other than man has ever had the power to kill itself? Or wipe out other entire species, by the thousands? People do what they have to do to survive and they have done so throughout the millennia. Humans have made it this far, so I posit that it is not people that are the problem per se, but rather the ignorance, selfishness and greed of our current modern culture, put on steroids by fossil fuels and technology, those are the real evils. As is our complete modern disconnect from the natural world around us. The most pathetic part of that story is we have allowed these evils to be morphed into virtues by our politicians, business leaders and media outlets. CollapseNet aims to disrupt that signal.

The time is right for this transition, our mission has clarified, and we are a rejuvenated organization. We know where our species is heading, and we have nothing left to lose. To do nothing merely guarantees the desperate shared fate humanity has created for itself.

We hope you will join us.
