Iranians rule out conditions for talks

-- Muslims are not supposed to be poker players. But Iran sure seems to grasp the concept. In the wake of U.S. sanctions Iran is thriving and playing as though it held a pair of pocket Aces, namely Peak Oil and the fact that it is not the nation spreading war and death all over the planet.. It's non-oil exports are up 29%. That tells you that the rest of the world is choosing to business there, instead of here.-- MCR

Iran rules out conditions to talks: Salehi
Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said Iran would not agree to world powers imposing pre-conditions ahead of the resumption of nuclear talks later this week, Iranian media reported on Monday.

"Setting conditions before the meeting means drawing conclusions, which is completely meaningless and none of the parties will accept conditions set before the talks," the Iranian parliamentary news agency quoted him as saying.

U.S. officials say that getting Iran to suspend high-level uranium enrichment and close a nuclear facility built deep under a mountain near the holy city of Qom are priorities for the nuclear talks between Iran and world powers, which are set to resume in Istanbul on Saturday.

"These issues have been raised by the media and we cannot base our judgment on those concerns reflected by media coverage," Salehi added.

He said the Iranian negotiating team would ignore those reports and defend its position in the talks.

"We have our opinions and the P5+1 have theirs but we have to find common areas."

The United States and its allies hope to be able to strike a deal with Iran over its nuclear program which they suspect is being used to covertly develop a nuclear weapons capability.

Iran maintains its activities are entirely peaceful and has so far refused to suspend enriching uranium.

US Navy deploys 2nd aircraft carrier to Persian Gulf amid Iran tensions

9 April, 2012

The U.S. Navy says it has deployed a second aircraft carrier to the Persian Gulf amid rising tensions with Iran over its nuclear program.

Cmdr. Amy Derrick-Frost of the Bahrain-based 5th Fleet said on Monday that the deployment of the nuclear-powered USS Enterprise along the Abraham Lincoln carrier strike group marks only the fourth time in the past decade that the Navy has had two aircraft carriers operating at the same time in the region.

The two carriers will support the American military operations in Afghanistan and anti-piracy efforts off Somalia's coast and in the Gulf of Aden.

The warships also patrol the Gulf's strategic oil routes that Iran has threatened to shut down in retaliation for economic sanctions.
