KONY 2012

Whenever there is oil in the air
 the white  man is there
Max Keiser’s misquote of Rudyard Kipling

THE WHITE MAN’S BURDEN

In the past week a video has gone viral on the internet made by some evangelicals, Invisable Children which basically call for pressure to be put on Barack Obama to send troops to get rid of Joseph Kony of the  Lord Resistance Army

The fact is that this video conveniently ignores the fact that American troops are already in Uganda.

It could hardly be a coincidence that this new-found interest in Africa coincided with the discovery of oil on the Uganda-Congo border, and this is one of the areas where Kony, who, admittedly is an evil man responsible for many atrocities and for the use of child soldiers, is operating.

So, if Israel can be restrained and if the world is not sent back to the stone age by thermonuclear war we can, no doubt look forward to yet another ‘humanitarian mission’ in an area where there just HAPPENS to be oil that we so desperately need, and want to keep out of Chinese (and others’) hands.

Max Keiser spoke of this in his latest program

An excellent backgrounder on the political aspects of this is provided by this edition of the Real News.

Kony 2012 Hides US Support for Repressive Ugandan Regime

The following short report from al-Jazeera a couple of months ago spells out clearly the links with oil

From the print media I can recommend this article from the New York Times of November, 26, 2011

Uganda’s Oil Could Be Gift That Becomes a Curse

And finally here is the piece, KONY 2012 that has, of now been viewed by 79,987,245 people

PS.  Here are two more articles on the issue:
